But when it comes to cleaning, maintenance and general check up, wouldn’t it be a lot better if you knew how to fix and maintain your car on your own?When you build your very own RC car, there could be a lot of work to do but if you’re in for a tight budget, this should do it. Ready-made cars is going to cost you probably more than what you have been assuming because, after all, it’s already made, all it just needs is a little time for you to assemble. Not only that, if you build your RC model on your own, it would just mean you can carefully select the equipment and other important parts you want, gaining you extra satisfaction of a better RC model in the end.Make sure that you have your tools needed for building your own model. Toys Coupons - How and Where to Obtain Valid Coupons For Toys

Toys and Hobbies are very very expensive!! I have been buying toys for my kids for years. I also have a couple of hobbies like RC Helicopters and Cars and i'm also apart of an AirSoft Gun Club. The kits and parts for these hobbies are not cheap, so I thought to myself, are there any coupons online where I can save some money?
According to a recent study by the NPD Group, last year 100% of U.S. households that have children under age 6 bought at least one toy and spent $485. This doesn't get Grandma and Aunt Susan off the hook though -- according to the report, 88% of households with no kids present under the age of 18 still purchased at least one toy last year and spent an average of $113.
Take a look at those numbers! Many people spend similar amounts and more on their personal hobbies like hunting, fishing, gun clubs, r/c, etc. I'm broke from the amount of purchases I put towards toys and hobbies of mine. The wife is starting to find out!.
I searched, searched and did some more searching for possible online shops which have deals and coupons. I looked around for days but I found a lot of spam sites. The spam free sites had some coupons and deals but they were invalid when I attempted to use them.
I almost gave up on my search until I found a great site. I found a site which provides you websites for toys and hobbies along with all of the valid coupons and deals available at the stores. Perfect!! this is exactly what I was looking for. This solves both of my problems (looking for shops which accept coupons, finding or obtaining valid coupons for the store). I made a couple of orders and the coupons worked successfully. I saved money and also got free shipping from a specific company.

Fly Away Into the Wild Blue Yonder With RC Airplanes and Leave Your Cares Behind

You have probably passed by a radio control airfield and witnessed r-c airplanes flying in the air.
And wondered what it would feel like to fly model aircraft.
Well good news, wonder no more, you can learn.
Flying radio control models is a great deal of fun.
Many people throughout the country are involved in this hobby.
There is something for everyone to enjoy such as cars, trucks, helicopters and boats.
But this article will focus on radio control airplanes.
There are various aircraft models to choose from, however this article is geared toward beginners.
The recommended aircraft for beginners is a A-R-F(Almost Ready To Fly) High-wing Trainer.
It is already built, and requires a few hours of assembly to complete the model for flight.

Enjoying an RC Car Hobby

If you like cars and trucks or you like to build models you might find that you would also enjoy a hobby that includes the building and use of an RC car. This is something that a lot of people of all ages and walks of life enjoy. Many people think that remote controlled vehicles are just for kids, but it doesn't matter how old you get, they are still a lot of fun! If you have been looking for something to do in your free time this may be just what you were looking for.
You can buy remote controlled cars that are already built and ready to enjoy if you would like. Many people buy their first car completely built so they can immediately begin playing with it and enjoying the fun and relaxation that can come from simply playing with the car in their backyard or in an open field. If you want to get a bit more involved in the process you can begin to think about building your own remote controlled vehicle.
A lot of people get into the hobby buying their cars and then find that they would rather build their own gas RC car. This is something that will take a lot of time and patience, especially the first time, but it is also a lot of fun. You'll find that when each phase of the build is complete you have a sense of satisfaction that you don't get from a lot of other things in life. This is something that you are doing for yourself and for fun, so the rewards are without limits.
You can buy a kit if you would like that walk you through the assembly of your own remote controlled car or truck or you can simply piece it all together. You can also build RC trucks, which also come in kits or you can build your own. It's better to start out with a kit since it can be quite complicated to build your own vehicle, but either way you'll find that it is a lot of fun and the challenge is definitely worth it.
A hobby that involves RC cars is really a lot of fun. You will find that you can evolve from someone who simply wants to enjoy playing with the cars to someone who builds them and takes it very seriously. This can be a hobby that allows you to take your mind off of other things while you do something that has some very enjoyable end results. It's up to you how involved you get and what you do, the idea is just to have fun and have a hobby that gives back as much as you put in.

Another type of RC car is the nitro powered model cars. We all know thatnitro radio cars are fast and it's what most hobbyists' reason why nitro cars are often chosen over electric RC cars. But of course, this isn't an ideal car model for beginners. Compared to electric powered models too, nitro cars give the real feeling of how racing should be. Over the years, development has been improved for better and efficient running.
There are numerous disadvantages in using nitro cars and maintenance among them. Dirt is easily accumulated after a short run and the chassis of the car requires cleaning in a regular basis. Also, another requirement for maintaining nitro powered cars is how it should be properly tuned. Nitro cars need to perform in top condition and maximum speed without consuming much of the fuel. Through proper tuning, overheating of these types of cars is prevented.
Compared to electric powered cars, a battery-powered car can achieve a run of about 10 minutes tops and then the batteries need to be recharged again; whereas nitro cars can be driven for longer duration.
A nitro powered car has four distinct parts and it includes special nitro fuel, the high horsepower engine, the pipe for tune exhaust and the air filter can be replaced. These parts are important for cleaning and regular check up because if these materials are neglected; a possible mechanical wear could happen.
One safety precaution falls under collision. Nitro cars are more prone to collision with other nitro cars due to the speed and power during acceleration. It's important to be aware first of safety measures regarding nitro cars before putting them to the real test. Generally, nitro cars require more attention since it asks for a lot of maintenance; but you can guarantee its performance as well if handled with great care. Go ahead and try outnitro radio cars.

Is Having A Radio Controlled Hobby Expensive?

It can be hugely expensive if you are fanatical about having the best radio controlled car, tanks, plane, boat or whatever.
Especially if you opt for the unbuilt versions and go down the road of building these for yourself from scratch.
Now I don't want to step on anyones toes but where is the fun in that? For me getting the RC car, boat or whatever up and running is the main aim, so opting for self built models just made sense to me.
Problem is though...the price doesn't differ much and the accessories can add up too.
Most of my time spent online searching RC stores was a fruitless excercise because many of the stores were either based outside the UK (where I live) or only stocked toy versions when I wanted the pro stuff.
Then I stumbled across a few very good thorough forums and articles (like this) that pointed me in the right direction. Therefore it is for that reason solely that I wanted to write something to help others looking (as I was) to buy their first radio controlled car.
Stop your search now because I have found a site that offers beginner level entry RC machines as well as nitro and petrol versions for the more advanced RC fan.
Do not waste your cash on toy RC helicopters that only go up or toy radio controlled cars that only go forward - get the real thing for half the price and get consumed in the RC world like I have :)

How to Convert Your Rc Car Into Drift Spec

Remote Control Drifting is taking off in a big way, in this article I show you step by step how to convert that old 1/10 touring car into a drifters dream machine. It's very simple and generally only takes a couple of hours, using this practical guide I'll have you sideways before you know it.

What exactly is drifting?

In a nut shell drifting is the art of changing the angle of attack of your car, while still maintaining full control, so in a typical drift driver X approaches the corner and turns in hard too early, this will bring the rear of the car around, Driver X will then turn back into the slide and keep the car going around the corner while maintaining as much angle and speed as possible, then he will over correct and throw the car into another slide right after the first one, with as little straight lining as possible.

Can a RC car Drift?

Yes, if you`ve ever been involved with RC racing, you know the level of setup that even the basic RC Cards come with, and drifting is no exception. While a stock standard RC car can drift out of the box, there are some basic setup and chassis modification that will help you get more angle, speed and chicks ;)

Where do I start?

The first thing you need is a RC car, I'll use two examples, both of which I've had personal experience with, the Tamiya TT01 and the Tamiya TA05. The first step to drifting is to break that traction, due to the power to weight ratio of RC Cars we need a little help, Drift Tires are all you need to get sideways, but there is a little more you can do if you want to compete. If you can't find RC Drift tires you can use insulation tape, be sure to wrap it in the same direction that the wheel will be turning, a good trick is to lay it down and roll you RC Car over it, this is the right way, Taped tires tend to work best on surfaces that already have a little to no traction, i.e. an underground parking lot, but they don't last long. Drift tires all have different tractions, more traction = bigger drifts, but this is useless if you need to compete on a tight track as the amount of torque used to break traction will also generate a lot of speed, in the end it's down to personal preference.

What next?

Okay so you taped your tires and played around a bit, not we need to get the car to be more predictable, all the standard racing setting apply, shocks, ride height and wheel angles are up to you, but if there is a must have it's the rear differential, you need to lock it, this is also know as a spool diff, basically it means that both wheels must turn at the same time. The result is a car that will break and regain traction on command, the drifts will also be much easier to control, more throttle = more angle, less throttle = less angle.

TT01

The Tamiya TT01 uses a planetary gear setup for the rear diff, which is easy to convert (and convert back should you change your mind later) the two most command ways to lock this diff are 1. Open the Diff and fill it with glue from a glue gun, or 2. Take a small piece of fuel tubing ,cut it open along it's length, and roll this around one of the planetary gears. Once done close the diff and check if it give the desired result before you put it back. The other option is to buy a hop-up spool diff.

TA05

The TA05 uses a ball diff at the back and the front, this is not as easy to modify, but it can be done. The way I modified mine was to use pop rivets. I opened the diff and removed the ball bearings and metal plates that the balls run along. I then drilled three small holes in the side, getting both halves of the diff. I then pop riveted them together and filed down the rivets. This worked, but be careful. 1. It's not reversible and if you make a mistake the diff will be destroyed. 2. It doesn't last long, eventually the forces that go through the diff will destroy this because it's been weakened by holes. A Spool diff is available for the TA05 and this is the preferred options.

What about the front diff?

Now that we have a solid platform we can experiment with slightly different setups to find the one that suites us best, this varies from car to car, but the principle is the same. I personally love using a front one-way diff, or a center one-way diff for more control. The downside is that using brakes at any time is the same as using you e-brake (hand-brake) in a real car, the tail will slide around in a 180, while this can be useful to initiate a drift and transition to a second drift from the first it's very easy to spin out, so most people prefer not to use the one-ways. Once again this is down to personal preference.

Why drifting is much better than racing.

Well I love both, but from the drifting side it takes a lot more skill and a lot less car, what I mean is that while racing takes skill, you can compensate with an awesome car, there is no way a TT01 will consistently win in a race against a carbon fibre racing machine. But with drifting you can, a TT01 can out perform any car out there, yes it will be difficult, but so much of drifting is down to driver skill that anything can happen. This being the case it's also possible to get into drifting with very little financial backing (unlike racing)

Finding the line! RC Car Racing To Win!

What's the point of practicing from a racers perspective? I mean, why waste all this time and car wear? Yeah, right! Practicing is one of the core components to becoming a good driver. This is the time where you get to discover how your car, and your driving style adapt to a new track or layout. Take the first few laps slow, think of your car going from corner to corner hitting your target spots. We will call them targets because it's a target that you will want to place the inside front tire of your car on every lap. These targets are normally a few inches from the edge of the board at each corner. The distance out from the board where you aim to target is dependent on your skill level. Remember: the goal is to drive such that your inside tire passes directly over all of these target points every lap. The more confident you become of your targets location and the better you get at judging these targets, the more your lap times will drop. Tip: Always remain on or outside your targets. If you find yourself going inside your target then two scenarios will have happened: 1. You are finding that you crash a lot, or 2. You may have become a better racer and need to set your standards higher (or targets closer to the board). It is important to remain outside your target to ensure you are hitting your target well (not dodging in or mistakenly missing your target). The best line to drive on entirely depends on finding the best set of targets to hit on each corner. During those first practice laps, don't even try to go fast but simply concentrate on accurately placing the car within a foot of your targets. With each lap you will develop confidence of the location of these targets and a feeling of how to place your car near them. You will begin to drive a tighter line with the eventual goal of consistently hitting every target point on every lap. The most important thing to take away from this sort of practicing is to commit to memory all of these targets so you can make judgments and alternative routes when there are pile ups, lap traffic or corner marshals in the way.Your trying to get a feel for the line you want to take. Get comfortable with the targets locations and then you can start to build on your driving skills. When you drive through a corner decide how well you took it in accordance with your target and speed. Pay close attention to the sticky section of the track and then branch out. Focus on the ares of the track that require the most attention. While you are practicing, spend your time thinking about the two or three corners that you need the most help with and only worry about those corners until they feel comfortable. It's a good idea to constantly evaluate your performance in each corner while you're racing, and with each lap try to get closer to your target while carrying as much corner speed as possible. It is important to use your race heats and main to improve upon your target/speed strategy. Use these races, just like you do practices, as tools to help you become a better driver overall. Even evaluate your lap times with the heat posts to see how consistent you where.

Choosing the Right Glow Plug for Your Nitro Rc Car

The glow plug is one amazing piece of engineering, the closest anyone has ever got to a true perpetual motion machine, you radio controlled cars engine will run without anything apart from fuel, no spark plugs or electrical ignition, these babies run on the glow.

Selecting the correct glow plug is not that difficult you just have to understand how they work. Truth be told they are not exactly perpetual motion machine, they still require a little kick with a 1.5V battery to start the glow, after that they will keep glowing as long as the engine is running.

Turbo or Standard

A turbo plug will only work in a turbo engine, these do not have tiny 1:10 Scale fans blowing air into the engine like there full sized counter parts, the turbo plug is tapered at the end to create a tighter fit to the engine head, this in turn increases power slightly, you can't use a turbo plug in a standard engine, these require standard plugs.

The Glow Plug Temperature Rating

You need to find the right temperature glow plug for your engine, a hotter plug will work better when the engine is a little short of heat, while you should use a cooler glow plug if you have a large engine that produces a lot of heat.Hotter glow plugs also make it easier to start your engine, while the colder glow plugs will give you slightly better performance during you run.

There is no right or wrong setup, everything needs to be taken into account, from the temperature of the air to the hight above sea level these all affect they way the glow plug will perform.

Quality over quantity.

When buying a radio controlled glow plug it's always, as so many things in file, worth your while to get the slightly more expensive glow plug, these generally have a more consistent tune and heat and will often outlast the cheaper plugs by several runs, which makes up for the extra cost.

Reading your glow plug

Using a few simple methods it's easy to find out how close you are to a perfect tune by inspecting the glow plug, if there is a surplus of oil on the head then they are running to rich and need to lean up your mixture, if your glow plug is a grey color with a small amount of oil then your spot on with your tune, likewise if there is little to no oil and your glow plug filament is bent or thinning where it connects to the base of the glow plug then you are too lean and need to richen your mixture.

Some general points about glow plugs

Never touch the filament, this is very fragile and doing so can break the filament and ruin a plug.

Protect your engine by only buying good glow plugs from decent hobby shops

Keep your glow plugs in a cool dry place, they don't like moisture

Always select the right glow plug

Follow the recommended break in procedures for your engine.

When Breaking in an engine chances are that the plug you use will be ruined.

Keep your engine in tune

Never tighten a glow plug too much, it doesn't need to be as tight as you think

Watch out for nitro detonation, this means your using the wrong plug or your tune is way off.

Use the right glow starter

Ask other racers for help, the RC community is an awesome one and someone will always be willing to help you

Why you should race RC cars, and not just bash

For those of you who have been racing your RC cars for years, and have a friend or two who you have been trying to get out to the RC tracks, this article is for you. Feel free to forward it to them.
For those of you who are fanatical bashers, and have avoided racing your rc cars at the local track, hear me out, because I have 5 great reasons you should take a run at it.
1) Hanging out with other RC car enthusiasts- You will absorb new ideas on how to keep your RC cars running at peak performance, just by hangin' out in the pits. Not all of them will be good, some could even do more harm than good. but if you are careful who you listen to, you can learn some terrific stuff that will make your ride handle better, run faster, and be more durable.
2)The game within the game- Its not just about racing, and being first in the heats (altho, that is a huge thrill) but its also about pushing the limits of your RC cars, and fighting agianst the track itself in a measureable way. When your bashing, you don't really get a precise way of knowing how fast your vehicle is. When you race, you will actually know to the millisecond what your vehicle, limited by your driving skills, can do.
3)By being at the tracks, you get to see the latest RC technology in action- You can go to the hobby stores and look at boxes of RC cars and buggies all you want. But if you really want to see what a Hot Bodies Lightning Pro or an XRAY T1'FK05 can do, there is no better, and cheaper, way to do it than hang out at the tracks. You get an even better idea when you race against them.
4)Making new friends- Not that you need new friends, but it's great to have a friend who knows RC cars tips and tricks. Someone you can ask questions, or bounce ideas off of. Or catch rides to the track when your full scale car is in the shop.
5) Just like when your bashing and you finally nail that jump you set up in your backyard, mastering a track is a total rush- Everyone will tell you when you first start racing rc cars, just try to do crash free laps. Isn't that essentially what you are doing in your backyard?
Why not take your Monster truck to the track, and do some racing, and see if you can handle the track's jumps and rhythm sections? I bet it will be months before you have a crash free lap. Howse that for a challenge?
If you have put off racing rc cars because it looks intimidating, your worried you will make a fool of yourself, or smash up your car or buggy, or piss off someone by smashing THIER car up... well, your right!! All of that can happen!
In fact, when I first started racing my RC cars, I made every racing mistake there is. I embarassed myself, I smashed my poor little car up, I was totally confused. Frankly, I didn't have much fun.
But, I fought through it, learned from my mistakes, got some great advice, and now I enjoy every weekend at the track. I strongly suggest you give racing a chance. I think it's the best way to enjoy your RC cars hobby.

There are already two choices available for your RC car. You can either run it on or off road but if you want to go the extra mile and add a few rush of adrenaline to your racing experience, you can opt for the off road car, truck or buggy. We all know that RC cars are the most common type among all other RC toys. RC cars are ideal for a typical racer or those who love speed even from just little cars.But then again, there are still the off-road type of RC vehicles you can try just in case off-roading became a sudden curiosity and interest to you; there are off-road trucks and buggies available. Don’t worry, if you think that off-road RC trucks are limited to electric engines, better think again because these babies are also available in nitro fueled engines. It doesn’t stop there, if you’re a first timer in handling off-road RC trucks, don’t worry, there are ready-made merchandise available in the market as well.Next are the buggies. RC Cars History

The dawn of RC car racing began in the 1960's when the first radio control system was available. The difference between a normal vehicle as we know it and a model RC vehicle is its size. These small "road runners" can be very fast and very precise. The innovations in the radio control system and in the model's architecture, made them stronger, faster and easier to control.

Small nitro methane engines were available from the 40's. In the mid '66 El-Gi, (Elettronica Giocattoli) from Italy, released the first fully RC model. The car was available in shops in UK by December, the same year.

By the beginning of the 70's a British company, called Mardave, began manufacturing RC models. They sold commercial models all over the UK.

In the early 70's several US companies began producing models. Their products were at first 1/8 nitro powered kits. Their body was made of polycarbonate

The most popular model engine of those times was the K&B Veco McCoy. With the passage of time, producers took time to experiment with different types of heat sinks, engines, suspension types and larger fuel tanks.

US company Jerobee created in '74 the 1/12 nitro Cox engine car. Several other companies created parts for it. Afterwards, Jerobee became Jomac and started manufacturing electric models.

1976 is a great year for the RC models' history. Tamiya, a renowned company from Japan, entered the world of radio-controlled cars. Until '76, Tamiya was notorious for their highly detailed miniature car models. Although they entered the market with very high prices, their kits were sold in no time. In '79, the same company released their first real off-road buggies, the Sand Scorcher and Rough Rider. This was the beginning of a great company. Their early models are today collector's items, reaching the value of $3000.

Because of this popularity, Tamiya re-released some of the early models in 2005. As expected, the products sold fast.

It would be a shame not to mention another great company. In 1980, Schumacher Racing UK was the first company to release the ball differential technology. This allowed model owners to adapt their racers to various terrain conditions very easily. Until then, on-roads had a solid axle. Thanks to the technology introduced by Schumacher Racing, switching from an elegant on-road to a rough off-road has never been easier. This very same company was the one to release CAT (Competition All Terrain) in 1986. In 1987 the model won the international RC championship, being considered one of the best off-road buggies of that time.

Aerodynamics For Fast Electric RC Cars

Speed thrills and that is why fast electric rc cars are popular among radio controlled hobbyists. But did you ever wonder how much effort goes into designing a system that goes up to once unimaginable speeds that we are now accustomed to.
Simply put it's immense.
There are so many aspects of making fast electric rc cars that are responsible for the kind of speed that they are designed for. One of those very important parameters is the aerodynamics of the car body. You will see how and why the aerodynamics of a fast electric rc car plays such a pivotal role in designing the vehicle.
Aerodynamics is basically the study of forces that come on a body when it travels at a great speed through a medium especially air or atmospheric air. This word is mostly used in context of aeroplanes, rockets and spaceships. But then it becomes equally important in case of fast cars.
Basic Governing Principle
The principle that forms the basis of aerodynamic study is the Bernoulli's theorem. It says that the total energy at any point of flow will always be constant. However energy will change from one form to another. For e.g. potential energy may be converted to kinetic energy or heat or some other form of energy without disturbing the total amount of heat. On a closer mathematical analysis you will find the following relationship.

The relationship above means that on a surface like that of your fast electric rc cars body if the velocity of air increases then the pressure exerted on that surface would reduce. Now let me make it more lucid for you to understand.
You have two surfaces of your rc car. One is the top surface and the second is the bottom surface. When the car rushes through air in one direction essentially air flows along the surfaces in opposite direction. However because of the design it so happens that the speed of air flowing through the top surface is slower as compared to that of the air flowing along the bottom surface. As per the principle above with decrease in speed the pressure on top surface increases. This increase in top surface pressure greatly improves the stability of the vehicle while running at high speeds. It pushes the car down which in turn provides the traction needed for smooth running.
RC sprint cars have a very high speed to weight ratio. Thus it is very important for them to have a design that is favorable and can take care of the aerodynamic forces to come up with a much more stable rc car.
Overall aerodynamics plays a very important role not only in case of fast electric rc cars but also in many other areas like real life cars, aeroplanes, rockets, sail planes, missiles, fighter aircrafts etc.

Fast Electric RC Cars Transmission - Shaft Or Belt Drive

When we talk about transmission system on fast electric RC cars, there are two type of transmission system are widely used on every fast electric RC cars today.
A shaft drive transmission uses aluminum while belt drive use composite belts connect from motor to front and rear gearbox to produce power to 4 tires. (4 wheel drive). Both functional are to transfer motor rotation or power to a wheel (tires), this make a your electric RC car move.
Both transmissions have merits and demerits, but it is really hard to say which one is better. Remember! The result of opinion may differ from each others, it depend on their knowledge and experience.
1. Acceleration. Shaft drive is giving you perfect response and less resistance than belt drive to moving.
2. Maintenance. Shaft drive gives you less in maintenance but it's hard to replace compared to belt drive.
3. Operation. Belt drive will give you less vibration and run smoother than shaft drive.
4. Durability. Shaft is heavier but lasts a lot longer, Belt is lighter but wears out quicker to high acceleration.
5. Cornering. Belt drive cars seem to be faster and stable when cornering than shaft drive cars.
After you know all about as mention above, it might help you to choose your Shaft or Belt drive electric RC cars. In fact one thing you should consider is how each transmissions look like and it functions. The most important thing, which type of transmission is suit with your driving style, is it Shaft or belt? You have to remember don't ever follow your friend taste in choosing this but you are advised to ask for opinions from as many of your friend.

- Motor ( Brushed / Brushless )
- ESC ( Electronic speed controller )
